The Tanimu Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed the safe return of the students and teachers who were kidnapped in Oyo State, on May 15th , while calling on the Federal Government to strengthen security measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
The PDP faction said the release of the victims was a welcome development and stressed that protecting lives and property remains the foremost responsibility of the government.
In a statement issued on Friday by the National Publicity Secretary of its Interim National Working Committee, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the party expressed relief over the safe return of the students and teachers.
“Although details of the rescue remain limited, we commend the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, security agencies, and all individuals and organisations whose efforts contributed to the safe return of the victims,” the statement said.
The PDP described the abduction as a traumatic experience, stressing that no one should be subjected to such an ordeal in the pursuit of education.
It called on the Federal Government to take decisive steps to prevent a recurrence of such heinous acts, noting that Nigerians deserve to live and learn in a secure environment.
“The protection of lives and property remains the first responsibility of the government and is the irreducible minimum that our country and its citizens deserve,” the statement added.
